Trading on American Stock ExchangeThe American Stock Exchange, or AMEX, is the third largest exchange in the US. Prior to NASDAQ’s emergence, it was the number two exchange. In 1998, the AMEX was bought out by the NASD, which is actually the parent company of NASDAQ. Currently, the AMEX trades primarily small-cap stocks ( Market Cap is explained in the next section) and options.
